Tuesday September 27th 5-7:00pm
at Axe & Fiddle, 657 E. Main Street, Cottage Grove
On September 27th, the Coast Fork Willamette Watershed Council welcomes Christopher G. Yee, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) Assistant District Wildlife Biologist, to Cottage Grove for our September 2016 Science Pub presentation entitled The Life History of the Western Pond Turtle. This presentation will investigate the needs and challenges Western pond turtles face throughout their life. Christopher will start with the egg stage and progressively work through the various life stages, concluding at breeding adults. In addition, Christopher will include information about Oregon’s primary non-native invasive turtle species.
Christopher Yee has worked as a Wildlife Biologist for 27 years. He currently works for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife in Springfield, Oregon. His career has included work in wildlife research, population management, native habitat restoration, and habitat management across the United States. Christopher holds a B.S. in Wildlife Biology with a minor in Botany from the University of Montana and a research based M.S. in Range and Wildlife Sciences from the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute at Texas A&M. He has worked with freshwater turtles in the Midwest and the West Coast. Christopher is currently a core member of the Oregon Native Turtle Working Group – Upper Willamette Chapter.
The Coast Fork Willamette Watershed Council hosts a free monthly public meeting series called the Coast Fork Science Pub on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 5-7pm at the Axe & Fiddle, 657 E. Main Street in Cottage Grove. The event begins with informal socializing, trivia, prizes and updates about the watershed and watershed council during the first hour. Then our formal science pub presentation begins at 6pm. Participants are encouraged to support the Coast Fork Willamette Watershed Council by ordering food & drinks from 5-7:30pm, as 10% of the sales from evening sales will benefit the Watershed Council. The event is free and the public of all ages are welcome.
“And the turtles of course… All the turtles are free – as turtles and, maybe, all creatures should be.”
