Recreational Opportunities on
the Cottage Grove Ranger District
Coast Fork Science Pub
Tuesday July 26th 5-7:00pm
at Axe & Fiddle, 657 E. Main Street, Cottage Grove
On July 26th, the Coast Fork Willamette Watershed Council welcomes Jed Hancock, the Recreation, Engineering, Lands & Minerals Staff Officer with the U.S. Forest Service, to Cottage Grove for our July 2016 Science Pub presentation. His talk entitled Recreational Opportunities on the Cottage Grove Ranger District will explore the many ways to have fun outdoors this summer in the Cottage Grove Ranger District including suggestions on where and how to best enjoy hiking trails, mountain biking, camping, waterfalls, swimming holes, off highway vehicle riding, target shooting and mineral prospecting.
Jed Hancock began his career as a wildland firefighter in South West Utah with the Park Service in 2001. He became interested in recreation resource management after working as a river guide. He completed an interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree in environmental science at the University of Utah. Jed joined the Dixie National Forest in 2008 as a lead field technician managing off highway vehicle use. In 2011, he moved to the Manti La Sal National Forest in central Utah to oversee developed campgrounds, trails and special uses. Since October 2014, he has served as the Cottage Grove Ranger District’s Recreation, Engineering, Lands and Minerals Staff Officer with the Umpqua National Forest.
The Coast Fork Willamette Watershed Council hosts a free monthly public meeting series called the Coast Fork Science Pub on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 5-7pm at the Axe & Fiddle, 657 E. Main Street in Cottage Grove. The event begins with informal socializing, trivia, prizes and updates about the watershed and watershed council during the first hour. Then our formal science pub presentation begins at 6pm. Participants are encouraged to support the Coast Fork Willamette Watershed Council by ordering food & drinks from 5-7:30pm, as 10% of the sales from evening sales will benefit the Watershed Council. The event is free and the public of all ages are welcome.
