magine an eight-mile river, made of lumber. In the 1920s, a wooden flume carried thousands of board feet of fir and cedar down from a sawmill deep in the Coast Fork hills. It glided silently at five miles an hour. No trucks. No roads. Just water, gravity, and one man's vision. That man was Walter A. Woodard. That flume helped build a valley. Then a dam rose, and the whole world it ran through, including the town of Hebron, disappeared beneath a lake. Join us for “The Woodard Flume,” a History Pub presentation by Casey Woodard, grandson of the man who built it. The evening features rare StoryCorps recordings of the people who lived it.
