SUMMARY The accountant provides day to day support in the business office by processing financial transactions, billing State, Federal, and Private entities for grants and other revenues owed to the district. Prepares reports of funds expended and received for the various funds and accounts. Assists the Director of Finance with budget development and oversight, assists with accounts payable and receivable, and supports payroll and other functions of the business 

office.

Assists the Business Office in the ongoing monitoring, reconciliation, and general maintenance of grant contracts and related materials. Provides financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data; preparing reports. Prepares asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information. Processes Journal Entries Assists with Account reconciliation Processes grant fund expenditures and receivables and works in EGMS to prepare payment requests on grant expenditures and processes record keeping of grant and other funds. Documents financial transactions by entering account information. Recommends financial actions by analyzing accounting options. Summarizes current financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports. Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents. Assists with Audit preparation. Maintains internal controls by documenting and updating policies and procedures. Data entry. Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information. Maintains financial security by following internal controls. Prepares payments by verifying documentation, and requesting disbursements. Answers accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations. Complies with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation. Assists Business Office personnel as needed for other duties within the department that may be assigned. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE 

Highly proficient and accurate grammatical and typing skills with the ability to effectively use computer systems and excel.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS 

To perform successfully in this position, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 

Education: o Bachelors degree in accounting or at least four years -experience working as an accountant for a government, edcuation, or non-profit entity required. CPA certificate preferred. Interpersonal Skills: o Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. o Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; keeping emotions under control; remaining open to others' ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Language Skills: o Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. o Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff, regulatory agencies or members of the community, o Ability to effectively present information to directors, administrators and the Superintendent. o Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. o Ability to write reports and business correspondence. 

Mathematical Skills/Skills Related to Position: o Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. o Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. o knowledge of accounting principles, systems, procedures, controls and automated accounting systems. o Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of finance. Reasoning Ability: o Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. o Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Computer Skills: o Proficiency in the usage of accounting, database software, internet software, Excel, gmail and word processing software. o Ability to type accurately and proficiently. Other Skills and Abilities: o Ability to respectfully and professionally communicate with staff at all levels and others including students, parents, vendors, law enforcement and other agencies. o Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with frequent interruptions and competing priorities. Certification: o Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Certificates as determined by the District including a valid Oregon Driver License
