SUMMARY:Tiny Plates for Tiny Homes
DESCRIPTION:Tiny Plates for Tiny Homes fundraiser set for August 3\n\nCOTTAGE GROVE - Cottage Village Coalition announces "Tiny Plates for Tiny Homes\," a fundraiser to support Cottage Village\, a 13 unit\, tiny home development for low income individuals and families.\n\nThe dinner and music event will be held on Friday\, August 3 at 6 pm at the Cottage Events Center\, 2915 Row River Road in Cottage Grove. Tax-deductible tickets are $30\, and available in Cottage Grove at Crafty Mercantile and Kalapula books\, both on Main Street\, and online at https://bpt.me/3568325.\n\nDinner includes an array of salads\, main dishes\, desserts and non-alcoholic beverages.\n\nThe evening's music will be highlighted by a performance from the Cottage Grove Library Ukulele Club\, who have written original lyrics to accompany the music from the 1966 classic song "Tiny Bubbles" made famous by Hawaiian Don Ho. The groups' version\, played on both ukulele and kazoo\, is titled "Tiny Houses."\n\n"Tiny Plates for Tiny Homes" is one of a number of events being held to raise funds to construct the village. To date\, the Coalition has raised nearly $600\,000\, halfway towards its funding goal of $1.2 million.\n\n \n\nCottage Village will include 13 self-contained homes\, ranging in size from 200 to 300 square feet. Each unit has its own bathroom and shower and small kitchen. The size of these homes make them very energy efficient. The village will also include a community center complete with a gathering space\, commercial kitchen\, library\, workshop space and more.\n\nThe local group Cottage Village Coalition began its partnership with Eugene's SquareOne Villages in 2016. Since then the two groups have worked together to identify and purchase a 1.1 acre property on Madison Street in Cottage Grove. The property also has a 4-bedroom home and a large workshop. The existing home was rehabilitated by SquareOne and now houses a family previously living apart because they could not afford local rental rates. The property was purchased thanks to a $200\,000 grant from the Meyer Memorial Fund.\n\nThe tiny homes proposed for Cottage Village are part of a larger national movement to create efficient\, low-cost housing for low income residents squeezed by high rents and low availability of rental units\, especially in rural communities like Cottage Grove.\n\nPotential residents have to meet strict criteria for living in the village\, including a commitment to weekly work hours towards village upkeep.\n\nFor more information\, visit www.squareonevillages.org/cvc.\n\n \n\n# # #
